The Floating Sword pt2

Angelica ran all night making sure she avoided the town. It was impossible to think, that word of her doing magic did not get out.  She wished her father was still alive to instruct her on her powers but wishes can not be made into reality.

It took her all night and half the day to each the garden of spindles. She knew she had to get passed it to reached her uncle but her body ached from the strenuous run.

She noticed a tree to her far left that was larger than the others. One of the limbs looked strong enough to hold her so she could get some rest. As she walked closer to the tree she realized that the limb was a bit higher than she originally figured. She can not climb it wearing her long skirt. She looked around making sure no one was there and pulled her skirt off. Tossing it over her shoulder, Angelica began to climb until she reached the limb that looked like it could hold her from the ground.

Once seated comfortably she noticed that the garden of spindles were not as thick above as it looked below.

“Well I’m gonna rest here for a bit before trekking through those wicked looking spindles.” Some of the spindles look as if the sun purposely glistened upon them.

Her eye lids felt heavy and honestly Angelica did not want to keep them open. As she drifted off to sleep the picture of her mother’s face appeared and her heart began to ache from leaving her. Sleep finally took over.

The King and Queen

“Walk him to the gallows and bring me his head in a basket.” The queen yelled at her guard as he escorted the next victim of the gallows.

“My dear you have to calm down. We will eventually retrieve the sword” the king said as his attention was placed on one of the servant girls and not the man getting prepare to have his head lopped off.

The queen was not oblivious of the king’s wondering eye’s. Nor did she care. Her desire was placed on the sword and the power that came with it.

Once in her hand she will gladly rid her self of a loathsome husband. She glanced at him and she noticed that he was greying more at his temples and he had gained a little weight over the years. She remembered when they first was wed and she could not keep her eye’s off him.

Until she realized she watched him to often and he watched other women just as closely. It became worse when she could not conceive a child. Later she consulted with the palace magician and he informed her that the king was sterile since the accident he was in as a child.

The queen felt betrayed by the kings family. The former queen knew of her desire to have children and she let her believe she will have as many children her heart desired. The former queen had planned on her being impregnated by the former king.

Once she discovered the queen’s plot she created one of her own. The death of the king by a subtle poison that could not be detected by any of the house magicians and the queen died, shortly after.  The price for their deceitfulness was paid.

Now she was stuck with their lecherous son. The queen rose and walked out of the throne room to her own bedroom that the king had not slept in for years.

“My queen is there anything that I may do for your comfort?” The young female servant asked.

The queen looked at her and realized how young she truly was. The glow of her cheeks were still in bloom, making her feel slightly unsettled. Realising her own youth had gone and left a woman with regret. She decided that she will send her to retrieve a special fruit that only grew at the north end of the palace gardens. It will take her a couple of hours to return.

“Go bring me the sweet jewjey fruit in the palace garden. I want at least the three most ripened fruit.”

She bowed and went to retrieve the fruit. Once she left she had her personal guard retrieve the only person she wanted to her time with.

Nester the apprentice palace magician.

Chapter One

“Mother why are hiding from the farmer Glyndon? He has always been kind and generous to us.”

“Daughter now hush. I will inform you of his treachery as soon as we are out of harm way.”

“Ms. Lione please answer me. What you heard was not what it sounded.”

Angelica and her mother stayed hidden well into the night when they could not hear the farmer call for them anymore.

Ms. Lione and her daughter rushed home quickly. Angelica did not understand the sudden change in her mother’s demeanor towards the farmer. They seemed to be friends.

“Mother, tell me now, what is going on?”

“The farmer has seen you use magic and sent a messenger to the king and queen to collect you, child. You must run.”

Angelica could not believe what she was hearing.

“It does not matter when, it only matters that he has and now they will be after you.”

“Where shall I go? You are the only person that is still living in our family.”

“That is not the truth. You have an uncle. He lives at the edge of the lake beyond the garden of spindles. When you see him tell him you are the daughter of Reen his older brother. He will take you in.”

Angelica could not bear to leave her mother.

“Mother you must come as well. When they realize that I have gone you will be killed or worse.”

“Do not worry about me, my daughter. My heart is beating with the undying love that you and your father have given me. Now he will never forgive me if you meet the same fate as he and loose you head. Now child leave. It will take you a day and night to reach your destination.”

Angelica hugged her mother and took a deep breath in knowing it will be the last she will ever smell the women who loved her for eighteen years. She held back her tears because it would cause her mother to suffer more to see her pain.

She grabbed her bag and kissed her mother’s plump check and took off towards the lake. Not knowing what she may find or who.
