Peter
I am so tired of both Eliza and Noel. You would think that I would have learned by now to stay out of the mess these two always seem to drag me into.
A young woman with auburn hair walks passed me smelling of a mixture of scents that would make a dog gage. She was not Noel’s type. She was too confident. There is one thing about nature is once you had something that you don’t like you will never go for it again.
Noel had a taste of dominating Eliza and he will not go and find a replacement. No we have to look for a female totally opposite from her.
She would have to not call too much attention but not too meek. She does not command a room like she does. This woman will draw attention without trying.
“Think Peter,” I said to myself as I kept walking down a busy street, It was nine at night on a Thursday and people were out having dinner seeing a movie, and go out for drinks.
Then it occurred that Eliza hated work. She loathes it actually, so this woman would have to have a job. What would pique his interest? I decided to change tactics. I have not done this in a while, but I think that I have to do mass hypnosis. It would be hard for Noel to figure out who is under a trance if everyone is.
Darlene
Work was a bit more tedious than expected. The investors keep changing their minds on what they want the interior to look like. The priority is lighting has to be dimmed and privacy.
The design had a major overhaul and I needed to go home to get some rest. I looked at my phone and I had a message from Sammy.
“Hey darkling are you free tonight. There is a crowd here and I cannot do this all alone. Noel had to go out.”
Noel left her when it was busy. I told her I was on my way. I said goodbye to the others without explanation and went straight to the shop. She was not kidding the place was packed wall to wall.
I pushed my way through, and I knew it was bad because Sammy was relieved to see me. She is never relieved to see me.
“Hey if you can serve, I will make the orders.” She called out as I went to the back and put my bag down. Pulled out my white trainers and put them on. Took off my blazer and tied my hair up. I was ready.
I was working already for an hour before Noel came back and seen what was going on. He threw on an apron and started making drinks as Sammy transitioned to ringing up the customers only.
Things started to go faster. Once we served the last of the customers the three of us looked like we were on the front lines. My ponytail was dropping to the side. Sammy usual put together make up looked more like Halloween with her eyeliner and mascara streaking from sweat.
Noel just looked confused.
“What the hell was that?” He asked.
Sammy gave him a look and I know they were communicating but I did not care. My feet hurt and I needed to rest.
I walked past Noel to the back, and he gave me a brief kiss on the cheek.
“Hey, thanks for coming.” Sammy said while I kept walking.
“You’re welcome.” I called out.
Noel
“Sammy what the hell?” I said.
Listen I felt the power behind this. these people were compelled to come in here. I don’t know why.” She said while she took a napkin and started straightening out her make up.
This was a feeler. Someone was watching me without making it obvious. Eliza does not have that kind of power. Did Peter? He was always so laid back I don’t know.
I heard a scream, and we ran out to see what was going on.
A crowd was around someone that was on the ground.
I pushed past a few people to see a woman slumped on the ground. I pulled her back, and she looked like-Darlene.
The bite was brutal. No finesse but point was made. They were going after her if I do not back down. I turned to Sammy and went back inside.
Already I started to hear the whispers. This was not a way to send me a message, but I understood what it meant.
“What do you need me to do?” She asked.
“She needs protection.” I am walking inside and closing up the place. Normally I keep it open late. Now all I can think about is Darlene.
“I can only guarantee that if I have something from the beings that want to cause her harm.” Sammy said
Before I could respond Darlene came from the back with her bag over her shoulder, her blazer over her arm and a tired smile across her face.
“I have to go home to get some rest. Call me if you need me.” She went to me and gave me a soft kiss on the lips.
I whispered,” I need you. Coming over later.”
Her tired eyes opened wide. Not expecting to hear that from me.
“Ok later” her cheeks flushed a little realizing Sammy was still there.
“Night, Sammy”
“Night”
(Let me know how you are liking it so far.)
